History
OnTrace was established in 2006 as a not-for-profit, non-government Corporation to champion traceability in the agriculture and food industry of Ontario. OnTrace is governed by a Board of Directors, with innovative and dynamic leaders from the primary production, food processing and food retail sectors.
As part of its mandate, OnTrace built the original Ontario Agri-Food Premises Registry (or OAPR). In September 2007, OnTrace began work on the OAPR initial pilot project and by mid-2008 the system was operational. OnTrace earned a good deal of respect for developing and deploying a fully functional premises registry in such a short period of time and remained official Ontario Premises Registrar until April 2012.
Following an initial pilot in 2007, that included four counties and five producer organizations (Ontario Tender Fruit, Chicken Farmers of Ontario, Egg Farmers of Ontario, Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg & Chick Commission and Turkey Farmers of Ontario). OnTrace was able to establish data sharing arrangements with numerous major business groups during its time as Provincial Premises Registrar.
